Welcome to my website — I truly appreciate you visiting, listening to what I have to offer here — maybe even purchasing a tune or two or the entire Soul Growth album!
Who am I? Who is Scontz Thompson? Good question — one I’ve been asking myself the entire 75 years I’ve been on the planet. Suffice it to say I popped into this world a wet, screaming bundle of joy same as you; shocked into drawing my first breath, startled by the rude, sudden shift from floating in warm amniotic bliss to…all that was to follow.
I don’t consider what I have or have not accomplished in this life as an accurate measure of who I am. Pardon me for stating the obvious, but what has always fascinated me most is THAT I am at all! From whence do we come, and where are we heading? Pondering this koan has been with me all of my life — that said countless many times I have abandoned it, distracted by life’s more mundane pleasures and pains…yet now and then there appear moments in the midst of it all when the mind suddenly falls silent, surrendered to the inexplicable joy of being! All anxieties, desires, hopes, regrets and dreams held onto so tightly…gone! Well then who or what remains? Good question — asking it often helps keep me awake and less inclined to fall for what the monkey-mind relentlessly dishes out!
A singer-songwriter is not who I am, it’s what I love to do. It’s a big ol blessing in my life, a truly magical process. The Muse whispers, I tune-in, pick up a pen and feverishly write feelings, words, chord progressions as they channel through. And then…come the many hours spent fine tuning the initial gift. Finally weeks down the road recoding day arrives. The recording studio is my sandbox — hands down my favorite place to be. That said, the experience also has it’s challenges — time is still indeed money and many takes will inevitably come and go before the keeper gratefully arrives.
Some things that happen in our lives are deliciously mysterious yet quite natural and actual indeed. The way the Muse works and plays with me is such a mystery, one that I shall cherish and honor till the day I take my last and shuffle off to Buffalo.
Please enjoy these songs I’m offering…channeled from the Muse through me to you.
Thanks for stopping by!
Peace,
Scontz
